VoIP (voice-over-IP)
A way of making telephone calls over a packet-switched network like the Internet. Voice-over-IP requires special telephones and software. Voice-over-IP is commonly abbreviated to VoIP. Its main advantage is that it avoids the usual phone service tolls. A few companies are offering cordless VoIP phones that work on Wi-Fi networks.
